Grade 8 Short Story 1: The Sniper

Today we will begin reading and analyzing “The Sniper”. This thrilling short story written by Liam O’Flaherty, encompasses many of the literary elements we have discussed in class regarding short stories. I have attached the short story and comprehension/analysis questions. This week we are focusing on being able to recognize the theme of a short story.

Grade 8: Read Theory Homework due Friday

Just a reminder that yesterday you were assigned five read theory stories to complete by Friday!

Check in: At this point you should be almost done/finished reading your book for the Independent Book Project. Remember that Part A (Questions) and Part B (Summary) are due on Monday 10/29. Check the assignment sheet in order to ensure that you include all of the necessary components for each section of the project.

Library Workshop: Credibility of Websites (Building Research Skills)

Happy Monday! This week during the allotted library period of each English class, we will be venturing down to the library. Grade 6: Unit 1 Egghead Novel Study

This past week in Grade 6 we have begun our first novel study. We are reading the novel Egghead. This novel explores the themes of: bullying, friendship, loyalty, courage, peer pressure, power, and choice. We had a discussion in class this week revolving around the lessons we can learn from an author’s specific word choice.
