Exams Are Over –> What’s Next? (Sales Pitch Assignment Due: Friday March 8th)

The second term is almost over!

Reminder: The three book reviews are due tomorrow! (March 1st) Don’t forget to email me that names of the three novels you reviewed.

Next week we are going to be practicing our oral communication skills. Students are being asked to create a 60 second sales pitch presentation. Students will choose a book that they have recently read and attempt to convince their classmates to read this novel. Let’s see who can be the most persuasive. This assignment is due Friday, March 8th. Students will be given ample time in class to prepare and practice for their pitch!

Grade 7: The Outsiders Update

This week we have finally resumed The Outsiders novel study! For tomorrow’s class period students are being asked to complete two tasks.

  1. Students will complete the attached document which contains vocabulary terms and reading comprehension questions for chapter four. Students can choose to complete this assignment on paper/via Google Doc.
  2. Upon completion of these activities, students are being asked to continue reading Ch. 5 of the novel.

Grade 6: Creative Writing Assignment

Students will be asked to respond to ONE of the following prompts.

A. How will daily life be different 50 years from now?

B. What does it mean to be a good citizen of a community? 

C. If you had to give up one of your five senses, which would you choose to go without and why?

 

Students will have the opportunity to get their creative juices flowing, while practicing paragraph writing skills.

Your writing piece must include:

  • Minimum of two paragraphs
  • Use the P.E.E. Method
    • Each paragraph needs a topic sentence (point)
    • Supporting details/evidence
    • Explanation of that evidence

Grade 8: Lord of the Flies Resources/Assignment

This week we continue our Lord of the Flies novel study!

All students should be up to Pg. 80 at this point. If you have not yet finished this section of reading…please catch up! During during tomorrow’s class students are being asked to complete two tasks. You can complete both of these assignments in a Google Doc entitled: Lord of the Flies Packet

  1. First students will complete the vocabulary chart attached below. You will be responsible for looking up and defining the vocabulary terms for chapters one through four.
  2. Secondly, you will look back throughout the chapters we have read thus far to complete the document that describes the setting. Students should be focusing on how the boys set up the island to create a civilization. (Think about it…What is a civilization? What does it typically look/feel like?)

Yesterday you received the optional proofreading packets. Attached below is the answer key. You will also find a few Kahoot review activities. These Kahoot activities can be used as a practice for both grammar skills and literary device identification.

Tomorrow we will be reviewing vocabulary in class. Today we will take a look at reading comprehension. Both exercises will be posted on the blog for your review as well. Keep up the hard work!
